Wedding of Ailynne and Kevin, Whilshire Grand, West Orange, NJ
Saturday, June 7,2008

Outstanding Detail
Ailynne and Kevin chose red and gold for their color scheme, which was seen in a variety of details throughout the day. The bridesmaids wore beautiful deep red gowns and Ailynne provided the ‘I Do’ crew with the leftover fabric from alterations, to be used to wrap the base of their bouquets. As the guests entered the Whilshire for cocktail hour they were greeted with a place card table topped with various sized vases filled with red tinted water and floating gold candles. The guests were also asked to sign a ‘red cloth’ that the couple would keep as a memento of their day. The ballroom was highlighted with red up lighting and red tablecloths on the guest tables while the sweetheart table had gold accents. Gold was also found on the wedding cake. The layers of the cake were trimmed with a gold fondant ribbon. The center pieces were tall vases that had golden bamboo and red and white orchids.

Planning Detail
The union between Ailynne and Kevin was also a union of two cultures, Filipino and Chinese. Because family traditions were important to the couple, they decided to include customs from both cultures. This involved the coordination of the “I Do” team, the venue and the couple. The bride had two outfit changes during the evening. She started the evening in a hand sewn wedding dress from the Philippines, then changed into a traditional Filipino dress for when the Filipino dancers entertained the guests with a traditional “Singkil” dance. The second change was into a traditional Chinese dress just before the tea ceremony, where the bride and groom honor relatives with a tea offering and in return the family gives a gift to the bride, welcoming her into the family. With these customs the bride and groom honored both their family and their heritage.

My Favorite Detail
Family tradition is an important part of a couples wedding day. A wedding is the coming together of two families into one. It is important for each family to include their own traditions and customs. Ailynne’s family was originally from the Philippines and they included the traditional “Singkil” dance. The dance involved 5 dancers, 4 men and 1 woman. The woman was considered the queen and she danced while the 4 men used long wooden poles to create a rhythm and beat while the ‘queen’ danced. During the ceremony at St. Theresa’s Church in Kenilworth, NJ the procession included the couples grandmothers, primary and secondary sponsors, the groom and his parents followed by the bridal party, two flower girls, two ring bearers and finally the bride and her parents. The primary and secondary sponsors were sponsors for certain rituals during the service, such as the lighting of the unity candle and the cord ceremony. The primary sponsors were also seen as witnesses for the couple along with Ailynne’s matron of honor and Kevin’s best man. The tea ceremony as mentioned above in the ‘planning details’ was a ceremony full of family tradition as well.

Wedding of Abby and Nigel, The Palace at Somerset Park, Somerset, NJ
Friday, May 23, 2008

Outstanding Detail
Lighting, as mentioned in Sondra and Joe’s Wedding blog, is crucial and can play a major role even at an impressive location as The Palace. Abby and Nigel’s ceremony was held in the Grand Foyer of the Palace, followed by the cocktail hour on the patio. The guests were then invited into the reception and found a beautifully decorated ballroom. The Details of I Do lighting team used strategically placed up lighting around the perimeter of the room, which were covered with green films. This gave the room a unique green glow that tied in Abby’s color scheme of green, gold and brown. See pictures in our wedding gallery >

“Attentive bridesmaids make for a happier bride”
When selecting your bridal party remember this key criteria. Choose girls that you are close to and that you would like to share in this exciting, emotional journey. Your maid/matron of honor should help you throughout the planning process and the girls should all come together on your big day to be there for YOU. This is the one day where your friends should be pampering you. It was wonderful to see Abby’s bridal party. They kept her smiling, laughing and relaxed. All the girls stayed together and were with Abby while she had her makeup and hair done and when it was time for Abby to put on her dress, they were there for the oohs, aahs and a few tears that were shed. The girls were not focused on their own hair, makeup and dresses rather they were in the background and would finish getting ready once they knew Abby was comfortable. abena_bridemaids.jpg

Abby and Nigel had created their own guestbook. Guest books are usually found at the entrance of a reception for guests to sign their names and leave a special message for the newlywed couple. Abby and Nigel had a book bound with photos of them throughout the years printed on heavy card stock which could then be signed by the guests. It was just another personal touch that brought the guests that much closer to the couple. abena_book.jpg

A modern twist on letterpress invites

Posted in News by Kristin on the June 9th, 2008

Another letterpress invitation hot off the press, but this time the client selected a shinny metalic paper to go with the modern baroque graphic. The perfect balance between the modern/classic look the bride was after. Have a look.

The Wedding of Sondra and Joe, Nassau Inn
Friday, April 11, 2008

Outstanding Details
The use of lighting, invited guests to enter the Prince William Ballroom with the feeling they had discovered a hidden ‘enchanted forest’. Tall tapers, pillar candles of various heights and low votives illuminated each table. Pin Spot lighting was used to highlight the ‘enchanted trees’ created by the ‘Details of I Do’ team, along with hanging glass votives and draping beaded crystals. This combination of lighting gave the room a warm glow and sparkle that continued throughout the evening.

Planning Details
Timing is always important; however, for Sondra and Joe’s evening wedding it was critical. In order for the evening to continue on schedule with as few delays as possible the couple decided to meet with the photographer before the ceremony. Traditionally, the bride and groom do not see each other prior to the wedding ceremony. However, couples are more often now opting to meet before the ceremony to keep on schedule, look ‘fresh’ for photos, and share in a special private moment together. For Sondra and Joe’s wedding, it allowed the photographer to utilize his time and capture the couple in the sunlight and along the streets of picturesque downtown Princeton.

My Favorite Detail
Weddings should be unique and reflect the personality of the couple. As a surprise to Sondra, Joe had arranged for a famous sports announcer to record their introduction into the reception. Going along with the sports theme, after the bridal party was introduced, they lined the dance floor with an archway of baseball bats for the newlywed couple to walk through while being congratulated by family and friends who were directing them to the center of the dance floor for their first dance.

An Enchanted Forest in the Nassau Inn

Posted in News by Douglas on the April 20th, 2008

The Wedding of Sondra and Joe took place in early spring at the elegant Nassau Inn. The Prince William Ballroom was transformed into a magical and whimsical space that mimicked the essence of an enchanted forest. To create a cozy and intimate environment the large round tables were pushed together into clusters of threes and were intermingled with long banquet tables. See the case study >
